“I do yoga to increase my balance in day to day life. What I didn’t realize initially was that it would bring balance to others areas of my life aside from the physical balance.”
Like anything, you must take at least one to two months of dedication to trying something new to feel it’s benefits. Some things take less time, like diet and regular exercise. How many times have you dedicated yourself to something and discovered it benefitted you in more than the way you originally anticipated?
“It is strange that only extraordinary [people] make the discoveries, which later appear so easy and simple.“
~ Georg C. Lichtenberg
When first starting yoga, we seek balance in our body. We then realize the mental resilience, focus and strength it takes to work through day-by-day on this physical mastery. Once we gather this mentality, we begin to apply it to other areas of our lives. Like…
- Balance in emotional reaction. For example, road rage, we recognize we are all people and we all want to come and go as we please.
- Balance in gratitude and desire. For example, we may donate one item for every item we purchase.
- Balance in diet and exercise. For example, we may express gratitude to our body by giving it proper nutrition or practice moderation in substances.
- Balance in attitude towards self. For example, we may throw mini celebrations for achieving a small goal, embracing each step in our journey.
“The saddest aspect of life right now is that knowledge gathers faster than society gathers wisdom.“
~ Isaac Asimov
Too much too soon. Our technological era, also known as the information era, brings in a lot of, well, information. It offers a larger window to see life through that our biology has never been presented before. This, to say the least, can be…
overwhelming. Bringing anxiety, confusion, low self esteem, and frustration. We, for the very first time in our psychological biology, find ourselves able to compare ourselves with more than just our neighbors, the person in the newspaper, or the person on the tv. Now, we can compare ourselves to people who are “just like us” on social media but also “way better” than we’ll ever be.
This is where the power of discernment comes in. We get to choose our information input; we click, replay, forward, and like. Here is a mental “algorithm” you might apply in all areas of life to cultivate balance:
- Ctrl + Alt + Delete = Control your emotions. Alter your line of thinking, even if for a moment. Delete negativity, even if reluctantly, add some positivity.

What’s next? Have you ever wondered if heated yoga is healthy or not? 🤔
